It may be true that GRAND MAX fluorocarbon from Riverge is the most expensive on the market, after many years of experience and comparison however, we are convinced it is defintitely the best, too. In terms of test and knot strength Grand Max is unmatched compared to any other fluorocarbon line of whatever manufacturer, so we rely on this tippet when fluorocarbon is indicated to use. Fluorocarbon has several advantages over conventional nylon tippet material especially when nymph fishing, but also when presenting streamers and dry flies to sensitive fish in crystal clear water. Because Riverge Grand Max has a similar refractive index as water it is almost invisible to fish due to fluorocarbon reflects much less light as nylon or polyester. Especially in frequently fished waters this is an unbeatable advantage. In addition, Fluorocarbon sinks and brings your nymph, wet fly or streamer down faster to the fish. Other advantages are the materials absolute UV resistance and the fact that it does not absorb water - test and knot strength remain constant. A fluorocarbon tippet fished on a Nylon leader with a dry fly can also make sense, because the leader tip is less visible and sinking in, producing no more shadow on bright days. Really clever fish can so still be fooled. Grand Max' superb strength also allows you to choose a somewhat thinner tippet diameter, if required to catch sophisticated fish. To think about: Because nylon is softer than fluorocarbon (fc will cut into nylon), knotting both materials together is not advisable. You should connect a FC tippet to a nylon leader instead with a so-called Pitzenbauer-ring (Tippet ring).
